When Windows 7 was designed, Microsoft purposefully eliminated the Always on Top option of the taskbar. Windows XP had that option to place the taskbar above other windows, so that it was easily accessible. Windows 7 Taskbar will be by default always on top of other windows, unlike in XP, which has other options also. Though it is by default always on the top, it is not always displayed. Auto-hiding option can be selected to hide the Taskbar. This will hide the taskbar from being displayed when it is not used or when the user is not accessing the options of the Taskbar. If auto-hide, the taskbar will not be shown unless the mouse is hovered in the location of the Taskbar. Once the mouse is moved from the position, the Taskbar is auto hide from view.

If the user wants the Taskbar to be always shown and not auto-hide, they can change the option. The user can go for Always on the top option and the taskbar will be shown above the other windows. This article shows the users how to change the taskbar view in their Windows 7 operating system. Refer the steps.

Instructions by Windows 7 support

The support team of Windows 7 guides the users through the steps for getting a taskbar on the top of Windows 7. The steps are simple and easy. Follow the given steps to get a taskbar on the Windows 7 screen.

ñ Move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen

ñ This will make the auto-hide taskbar appear.

ñ Alternatively, press the Windows key

ñ On the other hand, you can also press Ctrl and Esc together.

ñ This makes the taskbar appear regardless of its location.

ñ Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and select Properties.

ñ The Taskbartab will be selected by default.

Showing Taskbar

ñ Uncheck Auto-hide the taskbar on the Taskbar tab.

ñ Click OK to keep the Windows 7 taskbar always in view and on top of other windows.

These steps are enough for placing the taskbar always on the top of the other windows. If you were not able to set Taskbar above the other windows using these steps, contact the Windows 7 support team for further assistance.

The taskbar is one of the important elements of the Windows desktop. It’s normally located at the bottom of the screen and allows users to see which all programs are open and running at any given point of time. When you minimize any program, they will be placed on the taskbar. And to restore those minimized programs, you just need to click on the programs icon in the taskbar. Since this tool is frequently used, it’s important to have it placed in a location that suits your personal preference. In this article you can find instructions for moving your taskbar.

Computer support instructions

To move the task bar located on your task bar all you have to do is to follow the instructions mentioned below.

Start off with this procedure by unlocking the taskbar. If it is locked, you won’t be able to move it from its present location. To unlock it, right click on the task bar, and select the option labeled “Lock the Taskbar” from the given menu. If you can see a check mark on the option “Lock the taskbar” it means that your taskbar is locked. So to unlock it, just remove the check mark by clicking on it. If you made sure that the taskbar is not locked, go on to the step 2.

First position your mouse cursor over any empty space on the taskbar to move it from the bottom to the top, or vice versa.

Changing the location of taskbar

Drag the taskbar to the opposite edge of the screen. You can see that as you drag, the taskbar moves with your cursor. Release the left mouse button once you have placed the taskbar where you wanted it to be.

Repeat the above mentioned procedure for moving the taskbar to the left or right edge. Remember all you have to do is to click, hold, drag and drop the taskbar to the new location.

Once you have fixed its new location, make sure to lock it to prevent it from being inadvertently moved while you mouse around the screen. To lock the task bar, right click on it, and mark the option which says “Lock the Task bar” by clicking on it.

That’s all with the instructions for moving the taskbar located on your desktop. Thanks for your time and have a good day!

The Taskbar in a computer is the full length bar displayed at the edge of the Graphical User Interface desktop, which can be used to monitor and launch the running applications or programs in the computer. Task bar can be really helpful as it allows you to quickly start programs, provides shortcuts, keep track of windows, view notifications, navigate through different open windows etc. There are also options to pin your favorite icons, mostly used applications, favorites, and the like in taskbar.

Normally or by default, you will see the taskbar on the bottom edge of your system screen. But it is a very flexible tool that can be moved around and placed anywhere on your desktop to suit your convenience. You may even choose to hide the taskbar until you navigate your mouse pointer over it. After changing the position of your taskbar, like to the upper edge, if you are not comfortable with the new changes and want to revert back to the old or default settings, you can do that too. After performing a few tweaks, your taskbar is just at the right position and then you can lock its position.

Here’s how the Windows XP support team suggests resetting the Taskbar.

Windows XP support instructions to reset taskbar in Windows XP

Download the ‘kellys-korner’ taskbar program to automatically and quickly revert back to a default setting.

While downloading, choose the option “Save As”.

Taskbar in Windows XP

After download, double-click the file to run the program. Choose “Yes” when prompted if you want to run the script. Your default taskbar settings will be automatically restored.

To make changes without using a third party program, move your mouse to the taskbar location, right-click on it, choose “Properties” and select any options as you prefer like, “Keep the taskbar on top of other windows.”

Move the taskbar back to its default location at the bottom by pressing it with left mouse button and dragging it to bottom. If it doesn’t move, you will have to unlock it first by right clicking the taskbar and un-selecting the “Lock Taskbar” option. You may relock it again after moving it.

If the taskbar is not visible, go to “Start”->”Run” and type “Taskbar”, then press “Enter”. You will reach the taskbar menu.

So, that’s how simple it is to reset your taskbar in XP with these Windows XP support instructions.

This is known as the task bar. Unlike the desktop that gets obscured by the numerous windows, the taskbar is visible almost always. In Windows XP, it is the bar that shows the Start button, system tray and programs that are open or running. Task bar can be dragged to any side of the screen from the bottom. However, in this relocation or during any other system process, the task bar may disappear from the screen completely. If the computer settings are tweaked to hide the taskbar, it may inevitably happen one day.

If the task bar disappears for any reason, Windows XP help has the steps to restore it back to normal. This article looks into that procedure.

Windows XP help procedure for restoring task bar

Taskbar and Start Menu Properties: - Right-click the Start button and select Properties from the context menu that appears.

Lock the taskbar: -The Taskbar tab is divided into two sections: Taskbar Appearance and Notification area.

The Taskbar Appearance section contains five options, in checkboxes, for changing the view the taskbar.

Click the Lock the taskbar checkbox. This will keep the taskbar in its place, preventing you from purposely or accidentally dragging or moving the taskbar to other areas of the screen.

Uncheck Auto-hide the taskbar:- If you have this checkbox selected, this will cause the taskbar to disappear while you work.

To prevent the taskbar from disappearing when your cursor is in other areas of the screen, you must uncheck this box.

Keep the taskbar on top of other windows:- Select the checkbox to make the taskbar to permanently display on the computer screen.

Have a look at your taskbar; it’s at the bottom of the screen – the one with the green Start button and clock. Not much is it? You’re probably looking at what I had before it was fully customized (with some Windows XP support tips). The Taskbar is not something you give much consideration to. It’s always been on your desktop. It doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere either. So how could Windows XP support be of much use here?

Windows XP support for a Taskbar makeover

A lot. Ever think of what more your task bar can do? Consider giving your Taskbar a total makeover. With these Windows XP support tips, your Taskbar isn’t going to be the same anymore. Sure, it’s still going to have your Start button and system clock, but with a fully customized Taskbar you’re taking your ‘XP’erience to a whole new level. Windows XP support tips are really handy when you’re out to get the most of your XP, this time with a Taskbar makeover.

Depending on the functionality of your Taskbar and your usage patterns, the default Taskbar location might not really be in convenient location. By simply clicking on your Taskbar and dragging it to the top and side of your screen, you can move your Taskbar to any of the four corners.

If you don’t want your Taskbar to be visible anymore, use the Auto-hide setting. Windows XP support is really easy. Right click your toolbar, select Properties from the menu and click on ‘Auto-hide the taskbar’. Save your changes by clicking ‘Apply’.

When you’re running many instances of the same program, they tend to get bunched up under a common tab. A simple Windows XP support is to increase the size of your Taskbar. Mouse over the top edge, and when the double pointed arrow appears, left click and drag to your desired size.

Change the look of your Taskbar. Add a new theme, and see your desktop jump to life. The Zune Desktop theme is a theme worth checking out. You can download it from the Microsoft website. Windows XP support techs recommend that you have your Display Properties properly configured while attempting to install a new theme to Windows.
