Creating new icon settings

Icons are graphical representation that symbolize a function or entity, and are used for the quick execution of commands, programs and documents. The functionality of the entity can be accessed by clicking or double-clicking the corresponding icon. Icons are often compared with similar images. Icons are made of random images to be used under varying conditions. Windows XP operating system allows users to customize their icons. The default icons set by the operating system can be changed with images of choice; either from the icon library or from internet.

At times, the icon cache of the operating system may get corrupted and the icons will lag or take time to load when the Windows boots in. These icons may randomly change to other icons or become a blank icon. Windows XP help has the mechanism for automatically recovering the cache. XP will create a new cache when the display color depth changes, so that the broken icons are repaired.
